Written by Rogers and Hammerstein for the 1945 Broadway musical 'Carousel', Gerry Marsden and his Pacemakers performed the song in Liverpool clubs during the birth of Merseybeat. "The audience would just stop, stand and listen. It had this immediate effect," says Marsden. Released in October 1963, YNWA was the Pacemakers' third consecutive number one and nowhere was it more popular than on the Kop, as fans sang along with the PA before matches. When it fell from the top spot, Kopites continued to sing it and YNWA has been played and sung at Anfield ever since.
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

When i listened to the original song, then I realised how good it is as a song and how appropriate it was adapted by Liverpool fans as their anthem, more meaningful during the Heysel '85 and Hillsborough '89 tragedy.
Since Liverpool will once again playing in the Champion League finals (where are you Man. Utd., Chelsea?), You'll Never Walk Alone will surely send chill to the spine of Milan fans.
Yes, I'm a fan of Liverpool F.C. Not since 2005, not since 2001 (when we won 5 trophies in a year!) but since 1982 when I start to love football and seing them playing on TV for the first time. No, I need not wear the team jersey, need not place stickers on my car, but a true Liverpool fan I am. And always will.
I still remember back in 2005 where Liverpool was playing Milan in the Champion League Finals (again, where were you Man. Utd.? Chelsea?). Ahhh... the pleasure of winning. The next day at the office, my friends was telling me how lucky Liverpool was that day. Yeah right... We've won it 5 times and we were lucky. Right... Let wish that luck will always be Liverpool's fan. Hehe.
